The Borderline Folk Music Club is the only non-profit venue in Rockland County that presents acoustic Folk & Bluegrass music. In addition to Rockland we have members in Bergen, Westchester, Orange, and Putnam counties who regularly attend our concerts.
Our shows are presented in a relaxed, warm, & friendly atmosphere where no alcohol is served or permitted. We are all about the music. Our 3 venues are, the New City Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Steve Shapiro’s Living Room (in New City), and the Nanuet Public Library.
We schedule 7 concerts a year plus an annual summer picnic in August. We keep the prices for our concerts at an affordable $20 per person. Our members receive a $5 discount per concert. Compare this with a night out in the city or another high price suburban venue and you will readily see that we are the affordable alternative right here in your own backyard. In order to minimize expenses, food at all our concerts is done with potluck.
We book only the highest quality performing artists for our shows. Our booking committee is very strict when going through the selection process. Singers must first and foremost have a good singing voice and instrumentalists must have above average proficiency in their playing. We want you to totally enjoy your experience with us. Most of our performers are traditionally famous in the world of Folk & Bluegrass, but we also have some singer songwriters who we feel are rising stars and have earned the right to be heard.
Besides entertainment, there is also an educational aspect to our work. Folk music is our window into the past and blends traditions for many cultures and nationalities. We have programs on Sea Shanties, the Civil War, Union Labor songs, Irish Ballads, Bluegrass, and Appalachian Mountain music, etc. Because of our informal structure, our audience can interact with the performers, often on a one to one basis, and learn which historical facts, or social issues, have influenced their music.
Membership in The Borderline is $25 for an individual or $40 for a family, for one year. A 2 year membership is $40 for an individual or $60 for a family. Members receive a $5 discount to all our concerts as well as other perks including free admission to Jams and Song Circles that we sponsor during the year.
The Borderline is a recognized 501(C)(3) non-profit and all donations to us, whether private or corporate, are fully tax deductible. All our policies are set by a 7 member board of directors that meets regularly. For more information you can contact our president, Sol Zeller at (845) 354-4586 or by e-mail at solz1@optonline.net.
